Francisco Lindor
Stance proudly presents a new addition to our roster of Punks & Poets, Francisco Lindor. Known for his jaw-dropping defensive plays, powerful bat and dazzling smile, the Puerto Rican shortstop may be starting for a new team this season, but novelty isn’t new to him. Having left his home island when he was only 12-years-old to play baseball in America, the now 4-time All Star didn’t speak any English and experienced homesickness while away at school. Always smiling despite his struggles, he became 8th overall draft pick in the first round a few years later, and has carved out a place in the hearts of baseball fans worldwide ever since. Bienvenidos a la familia, Paquito.
Growing up what inspired you to start playing baseball?
The ones that inspired me were my brother and my cousin. They played the game and the only thing that we watched at the house was baseball. It was the family thing. Once I realized how beautiful and how fun the game was, I fell in love with it. I never stopped playing it or watching it.
Who were some of the MLB players you looked up to coming up and why?
Roberto Clemente, obviously. He is from Puerto Rico; my dad’s favorite player and he is the biggest icon in Latin America. We all look up to him. Unfortunately, I didn’t get to watch him play but obviously in history books in Puerto Rico we read a lot about him.
Another player I look up to is Roberto Alomar. He is an infielder, my favorite number, he was fun to watch and also from Puerto Rico.
What does Francisco Lindor like to do outside of playing pro ball?
Outside of playing baseball…
- I love to hang out with my family. I spend time with them most of my offseason. I love being around them.
- I love to travel.
- I like riding my bike. I have a road bike and love riding it. It helps me exercise, relax and get away from reality for that hour or two that I’m riding.
When did you first discover Stance. What did you like about the brand?
I discovered Stance when I first came up to the big leagues. These were the socks that the team had and loved how comfortable they were. I started looking what the other teams were wearing and their colors. More and more I started discovering different Stance stores. I like that the brand has so many cool things they can do with their socks and how the combine the unique and swag style.
How has the transition been so far now playing for the New York Mets?
The people in the organization have been very good, is fun to be around them. And I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
I’m all about swag and style, the skyline, different things to match the cool colors… is dope.
Francisco’s words to live by?
I live by being consistent and staying positive. Consistency is something extremely important in anything you do, in baseball, in being a brother, being a son, being a dad. Anything you do you got to be consistent. And you got to stay positive in life. There is always a light at the end of the tunnel. I believe that the more positive I am, the better vibes and better things come my way.
